My name is Julia Hamilton and I am the owner of & teacher at Dharma Yoga, the newest and only yoga studio in downtown Erie, PA. The studio is located in NW downtown Erie at 722 West 8th Street in a lovely, intimate space that has experienced many incarnations throughout the years - including a Flower Shop, Soul Food Restaurant and Coffee House.

Whether new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, Dharma Yoga is right for you. Come enjoy safe, fun, non-competitive classes and meet like minded folks, and perhaps even yourself! I welcome folks who have never experienced the joy of yoga due to cost, physical/mental disabilities or other limiting factors. I believe that yoga should be available to all regardless of income, status or physical limitations and we are handicapped accessible.

I have been teaching and practicing yoga for over 20 years and I am a Registered Yoga Teacher, E-RYT, Stress Management Specialist. My teaching style is influenced by the Kripalu, Integral, Iyengar and Viniyoga traditions of yoga. I currently teach the Stress Management component of the Dean Ornish program for Reversing Heart Disease and have taught at many different venues throughout the area including Hamot, St. Vincent, LECOM, Plasha Yoga and my home studio.

During the past 15 years, I've had a daily meditation practice which has enriched my life more than I could ever have imagined! I encourage my students to make meditation an integral part of yoga practice. The physical practice of yoga is meant to prepare oneself for moving into the stillness of your own centered being. This is meditation - When you sit quietly and let go of every false self-definition, of everything you think you know about who you are, what remains is the untarnished presence of who you've always been and still really are.

Dharma Yoga promotes spiritual growth and physical/emotional well-being through the practices of asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathwork), deep relaxation and meditation.

I believe that yoga is not, nor ever will be, a one size fits all exercise system for the body alone. It is a deeply personal universal and eternal philosophy of life. It gives us practical tools to aid us in the human journey. These tools teach us how to live - even in the midst of suffering, from a place without suffering - Peace!

The great Sage, Krishnamurti said it best "There's only one path - the path of the heart".

I invite you to visit Dharma Yoga as you travel the path of your heart...A Peaceful Sanctuary in the Heart of the City.....

YOGA for the Round Body

YOGA FOR THE ROUND BODY - Dharma Yoga is offering a 6 week session of Yoga for the Round Body beginning on Thursday, April 15th through May 20th 4:30-6:00 pm. It's often thought that you need to be super flexible or thin to start a yoga practice and that's just simly not the case.
I believe that yoga is for every body, regardless if you look like the models in "Yoga Journal" or Rosie O'Donnell. In fact, if you don't happen to be a tiny or medium sized yogini, that's all the more reason to get on the mat. Yoga can decrease stress, increase flexibility and improve posture. Yoga also helps us respect our bodies and get more comfortable in our own skin, something that everyone, regardless of body type can benefit from.
The instructor,Julia Hamilton,E-RYT200, and Stress Management Specialst with the Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease has many years of experience working with overweight people who also have associated health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and other illnesses.
A typical class will include: Opening with a relaxation pose, then stretch the body as we begin to practice the yoga poses or "asanas", followed by Pranayama which is a set of breathing exercises that have been shown to have a positive impact on reducing weight, and ending with meditation and yoga nidra (yoga rest). All asanas will incorporate the use of props, bolsters, blocks, blankets & straps allowing a deeper, safer and soul-satisfying stretch.
The cost of the 6 week session is $45. To register, call Julia at 452-4098 or visit the Dharma Yoga Facebook page and RSVP.
